UK Universities in Dubai: Fees Compared, 2026-27

Four UK universities run full, branch campuses in Dubai — Heriot-Watt, Middlesex, De Montfort and the University of Birmingham — and their 2026-27 fees are not close. A three-year bachelor's ranges from about AED 63,614 a year at De Montfort's lower-cost programmes to AED 82,264 for Heriot-Watt's BSc Computer Science. Most master's programmes across the four span AED 76,491 to AED 94,101 a year — Birmingham's MSc Computer Science, at AED 174,509, sits well above that as a single-course outlier rather than the range's top end.

The degree itself is UK-accredited and validated by the home campus in every case — you graduate with a Heriot-Watt, Middlesex, De Montfort or Birmingham degree, not a separate 'Dubai' qualification. The real decision is fee band, subject strength, and campus size, not accreditation.

This gets claimed differently across the internet, so the answer depends on the metric. By physical campus size, the University of Birmingham Dubai has the biggest campus of the four: Arabian Business reported its 2022 opening as a 30,000 square metre campus, and The National reported the plan at 50,000 square metres when ground was broken. By student numbers, Middlesex University Dubai is the largest: Dubai's education regulator, the KHDA, has named it the largest UK university in Dubai by total enrolment for five consecutive years, most recently with over 6,450 students in the 2024/25 report.

Even the lower Birmingham figure of 30,000 square metres (about 323,000 square feet) is larger than Heriot-Watt Dubai's documented footprint: 218,000 square feet for the main campus per its architects, plus a 50,000 square foot expansion, the James Watt Building, opened in September 2025 — roughly 268,000 square feet in total, designed for upwards of 5,500 students. De Montfort Dubai's campus is 85,000 square feet for up to 3,000 students, the smallest of the four. Middlesex does not publish a campus size, so it cannot be compared on building area. Birmingham's own campus page states only that the building is home for up to 3,000 students, so its square-metre figure comes from press reports rather than from the university itself.

So: Birmingham has the biggest campus by reported building size, and Middlesex has the most students by official regulator data. Treat the two claims as answers to different questions, not competing ones.

Heriot-Watt is one of the two longest-established UK institutions in Dubai (present since 2005, the same year as Middlesex, though its current purpose-built campus dates to 2021), with undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across business, computer science, engineering, design and construction. Its 2026-27 undergraduate fees run roughly AED 60,000-95,000 a year depending on subject — BSc (Hons) Computer Science is confirmed at AED 82,264 for 2026-27, directly from Heriot-Watt's own course page. Its Dubai MBA (with a Specialism in Professional Practice), offered full-time (1 year) or part-time (2 years, weekends), is priced separately from the general postgraduate range at AED 132,000, confirmed directly from its own course page.

Fees are not published as a single flat rate — Heriot-Watt sets them per programme in its online prospectus, so the range above is a guide, not a substitute for checking the exact course page.

Middlesex is the largest of the four by student numbers — KHDA's own Open Data has named it Dubai's largest UK university by enrolment for five straight years, with 6,450+ students as of the 2024/25 report. It also publishes one of the more transparent fee structures of the four. A standard three-year bachelor's runs AED 62,982 a year (AED 193,671 for the full degree), and its International Foundation Programme is AED 50,301. On the postgraduate side, most MA/MSc/LLM programmes sit between AED 76,491 and AED 94,101 a year, a standard MBA is AED 84,872, and the Executive MBA — offered across specialisms including AI, aviation, finance, healthcare and real estate — is AED 117,548.

DMU Dubai publishes a full, subject-by-subject fee table rather than a range, which makes it the most transparent of the four campuses. Business, accounting, economics and marketing degrees are priced lowest at AED 63,614 a year; STEM, law and design programmes (computer science, cyber security, engineering, architecture, law, psychology) sit higher at AED 75,191-77,338. Most master's programmes are a flat AED 93,713 a year, with the Global MBA priced separately at AED 104,186. Its one-year International Year Zero foundation programme is AED 46,305.

Across every equivalent subject where a direct comparison is possible, DMU Dubai's published fees are the lowest of the four campuses in this article.

Birmingham is the newest and most research-intensive of the four Dubai campuses, and it has the biggest campus by reported building size (30,000 square metres at its 2022 opening, confirmed by Dubai's Media Office at its April 2022 opening). Its fees reflect that positioning — its MSc Computer Science is confirmed directly at AED 174,509 a year full-time (AED 87,255 part-time) for the January 2027 intake, well above the equivalent master's fees at the other three campuses. Birmingham does not publish a single fee table; each course page carries its own rate, so this specific figure is for MSc Computer Science only and should not be assumed to apply to every Birmingham Dubai master's course.

Birmingham charges a non-refundable AED 5,000 tuition deposit on acceptance, deducted from first-year fees, and offers scholarships of up to 30% — a detail worth surfacing since it meaningfully changes the comparison against the other three campuses' lower headline fees.

The home UK campus does not set Dubai fees — each branch campus prices independently, reflecting its own facilities, subject mix and positioning in the Dubai market rather than the reputation or fee level of the parent university in the UK. Birmingham's Dubai fees sit above its own UK home-campus international fees for some courses, while De Montfort's Dubai fees are well below what the same subjects cost at DMU's Leicester campus for an international student. A Dubai campus is not simply 'the UK degree, minus UK living costs' — it is priced as its own institution.

For a UK-accredited degree at the lowest fee, De Montfort Dubai currently publishes the most affordable subject-by-subject table of the four. For the widest subject range and one of the two longest track records in the market, Heriot-Watt Dubai has real scale. Middlesex Dubai is the largest of the four by verified enrolment (KHDA, five years running) and has the clearest, most searchable fee structure. Birmingham Dubai has the biggest campus of the four by reported building size and sits at the top of the fee range; it is also the newest and most research-focused — worth it specifically if the course and research strength justify the premium, not as a default choice.
